WEDDING DANCE LESSONS IN BROOKLYN
Your first dance starts here.
Private wedding dance lessons for couples who want some help figuring out their first dance, from what to do when the music starts to creating full choreography together.
Some couples come to us with a song and not much else. Others already have videos saved, specific movements they want to try, or a pretty detailed idea of what they want their first dance to look like.
Both are welcome.
ESTIA’s wedding dance lessons are private sessions shaped around your song, your experience with dance, and what you want to create together. You don’t need any dance experience to start, and you don’t need to have the whole thing figured out before you walk in.
Our instructors come from different dance backgrounds, and ESTIA isn’t a traditional ballroom dance studio. We take a more creative approach to wedding dances, shaped by the couple, their music, and what they want to create together.
What happens in a wedding dance lesson
WHAT TO EXPECT
Creating your dance
Your instructor will use the information you share before your lesson to prepare choreography and ideas. Once you’re in the studio, you’ll continue developing the dance together.
Lessons can include learning new choreography, rehearsing what you’ve already worked on, trying different movements, and making changes based on what works for you as a couple. Something an instructor prepares beforehand may also need to change once you try it together.
If you have a specific idea in mind, send us as much as you can before your lesson. Inspiration videos, your final song or edit, and movements you want to include are all helpful.
How many lessons you book depends on the dance
A couple looking for something simple may only need one or two sessions. A longer dance or one with more detailed choreography, dips, lifts, or specific moments will usually take more time.
We recommend starting two to three months before your wedding when possible. This gives you time to practice between sessions and continue working on the dance without trying to fit everything into the weeks right before your wedding.
Sessions are booked individually
Wedding dance lessons are private, one-hour sessions at $189.
Sessions are booked individually, so you aren’t required to purchase a package or commit to a certain number of lessons.
If you talk with your instructor about a possible date for your next session, the appointment still needs to be booked and confirmed through ESTIA before the time is reserved.
Who you’ll be working with
YOUR INSTRUCTORS
ESTIA’s wedding dance lessons are taught by instructors with backgrounds across different forms of dance and movement.
They work with couples who have never danced before, couples who already feel comfortable moving together, and plenty of people somewhere in between.
What couples say …
Lydia was such a pleasure to work with!! My fiancée and I are getting married this weekend, and within just a couple of sessions Lydia created the perfect choreography for our song choice. She was able to accommodate for any change we wanted, and incorporated everything we were looking for. We feel so confident for our first dance coming up, and can't wait to show it off.
Coming into this, I felt nervous because I have no dance experience. Lydia made me feel comfortable right away and ramped us up in a way that didn't feel overwhelming. I couldn't imagine ending up with a full dance that looked and felt this good just a couple of weeks ago before starting our private sessions with Lydia.
If you are looking for someone who can help you have the first dance of your dreams, you should definitely work with Lydia!!

Lydia is the absolute best! She helped my husband and me prepare for our first dance, and we truly couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. She was so patient, encouraging, and made every lesson genuinely fun. We had the best time working with her and felt so prepared going into our wedding day. Couldn’t recommend Lydia more!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions about wedding dance lessons
-
There isn’t one number that works for every couple.
If you want something simple and mostly need help feeling comfortable dancing together, one or two lessons may be enough. A longer or more detailed dance will take more time, especially if you want to include specific choreography, dips, lifts, or other elements that need practice.
You can start with one lesson and talk with your instructor about what makes sense from there.
-
Two to three months before your wedding is a helpful starting point for most couples. It gives you time to practice between sessions and work on the dance gradually.
If your wedding is closer than that, you can still reach out. What you work on together can be adjusted around the time you have.
-
Your instructor will prepare choreography and ideas outside of your lesson based on what you’ve shared with us, but creating the dance doesn’t stop once the lesson begins.
Your sessions are also time to learn, rehearse, try movements together, make adjustments, and develop the choreography based on how it works for you as a couple.
-
ESTIA isn’t a traditional ballroom dance studio. Our wedding dance instructors come from backgrounds that include Contemporary, Hip Hop, Ballet, Jazz, and other forms of dance and movement. Your dance can be simple and traditional, more creative and choreographed, or somewhere in between.
If you have a specific style or vision in mind, send us examples before your lesson. A video is often the easiest way to show your instructor what you’re picturing, especially since the same style can mean different things to different people.
-
We don’t offer a separate trial lesson for wedding dance sessions. Lessons are booked one at a time at the regular $189 hourly rate, so you can start with one session before deciding if you’d like to book additional lessons.
-
Book your first session through our online scheduling system. Your appointment is reserved once the booking is completed and you receive confirmation from ESTIA.
If you discuss another possible date with your instructor during a lesson, make sure the new appointment is booked and confirmed before considering the time reserved.
If you know you’d like several lessons or need specific days or times, you may want to reserve multiple sessions in advance.
-
You’ll talk with your instructor about what you have in mind and start working on your dance together.
How far you get during that first hour depends on your song, dance experience, what you want to create, and how much time you want to spend learning, practicing, or trying different ideas.
-
Start with your song and let us know if you plan to use the full version or a shorter edit. If you already have a specific vision for the edit, bring or send us the edited version. For simpler edits, we can help as the choreography develops.
If you have inspiration videos, specific movements you want to try, a particular style in mind, or something you definitely don’t want included, send those too. You can also tell us about any previous dance experience or physical considerations that may affect certain movements.
And if all you have is a song and a wedding date, we can start there.
-
Possibly. Let your instructor know if those are important to you.
Dips, lifts, and other more involved movements depend on several things, including your experience, comfort, physical considerations, and the amount of time you have to learn and practice them. Your instructor can talk through what makes sense for your dance.
-
If you’re planning to use an edited version of your song, it helps to decide on that version early. The final song length and edit affect the timing and structure of your choreography.
If you aren’t sure yet, talk with your instructor before the dance gets too far along.
